Under 17s open UEFA Qualifiers against hosts...27/09/2009
The Republic of Ireland Under 17 side, managed by Sean McCaffrey , kicked-off their UEFA Qualifying campaign with a last gasp 2-1 victory over hosts Bulgaria in Druzhba Dobrich this afternoon. Ireland took a first half lead through Frankie Sutherland but the hosts equalised in the last minute of normal time. With seconds remaining in added time Daniel Purdy struck the winner.

EA Sports Cup Final cruise for Bohemian...26/09/2009
First half goals from Neale Fenn and a brace, the second a penalty, from Killian Brennan set Bohemian on the way to a comfortable victory in the EA Sports Cup Final against First Division side Waterford United in the RSC this afternoon. Kenny Browne scored a late consolation goal for the 'Blues'.

FAI agee new contract with Giovanni Trapattoni...25/09/2009
The FAI has confirmed a new two year contract with Giovanni Trapattoni. The new arrangement will extend from the current World Cup campaign to cover the EURO 2012 campaign and will be part-funded by Denis O'Brien.

Senior Women in World Cup qualifying action tonight...24/09/2009
The Republic of Ireland Senior Women just about recovered from last week's disappointing defeat by Switzerland in their opening World Cup qualifying fixture, when Stephanie Roche scored a late winner against Kazakhstan in Turners Cross this evening. Fiona O'Sullivan gave Ireland the lead just before the break but the visitors equalised twenty minutes into the second half. Despite dominating affairs, the hosts were unable to break through until the Roche strike, three minutes from time.

Under 19 Women complete UEFA qualifiers today...24/09/2009
The Republic of Ireland Under 19 Women who had already qualified for the next phase of the UEFA Championship, completed their qualifing programme when they defeated Finland, who had also won their two opening fixtures, by three goals to two this afternoon.

Under 19 Women trounce Faroe Is. in UEFA qualifier...21/09/2009
The Republic of Ireland Under 19 Women secured their passage to the next phase of the UEFA Qualifying programme with a comprehensive seven nil thrashing of the Faroe Islands in the Croatian venue of Velika Gorica this afternoon. Ireland will complete their qualifing programme when they meet Finland, who have also won their two opening fixtures, in Samobor on Thursday afternoon.

Defeat for Senior Women in World Cup opener...19/09/2009
Manager Noel King saw his Republic of Ireland Senior Women go down two nil to hosts Switzerland in their opening World Cup 2011 qualifying fixture in Wohlen this afternoon. Ireland will seek to recover, when they face Kazakhstan in Turners Cross at 7.30pm on Thursday next.

The Republic of Ireland Under 19 Women, managed by Sue Ronan, kicked-off their UEFA Qualifying campaign with a comprehensive three nil victory over hosts Croatia in their opening fixture of the four team qualifying group in Samobor this afternoon. First half strikes from Shelby Murphy put Ireland in command and a second half own goal set the seal on victory.

Folan and St Ledger make Middlesbrough switch...15/09/2009
Defender Sean St Ledger has switched from Preston North End to Championship promotion contenders Middlesbrough on a three month loan basis, with the view to a permanent signing for a fee reputed to be £3.5m. In a further initial loan deal, Hull City striker Caleb Folan has followed a similiar route. With Midfielder Mark Yeates catching the eye and youngsters James Cronesberry and former St Kevin's Boys star Conor Murphy also at the Riverside, there is now a significent Irish presence.

Italy defeat Bulgaria to take Group Eight command...09/09/2009
Italy scored a two nil success over Bulgaria in Milan this evening to go four points clear of Ireland in World Cup Qualifying Group 8. With Italy set to host Cyprus in their final fixture, it looks almost certain that Ireland can only finish as Group runners-up. Victory in either of the remaining home fixtures against Italy and Montenegro, or indeed two draws will guarantee that position.

Under 21s earn draw against Estonia in Tallinn...09/09/2009
Ireland recovered from conceding a fourth minute goal to Group leaders Estonia in Tallinn this afternoon with a swift equaliser from Cillian Sheridan some three minutes later. Both sides had chances to seal victory but none were taken and a point apiece was probably a fair result. The stunning four nil defeat of Turkey by Georgia has opened up the Group and raises interest in Ireland's home double header against Georgia and Switzerland next month.

Liam Lawrence lifts Ireland to deserved 1-0 victory...08/09/2009
A superb 25 yard free kick from Liam Lawrence on thirty six minutes secured victory for Ireland against World Cup hosts South Africa in Thomond Park tonight. Skippered by twenty eight cap Kevin Doyle, the remaining ten starters had a total of sixty six caps, many of them in substitute appearances. The performance was generally compact with few mistakes and while the visitors had perhaps the greater share of possession, they never threatened Keiron Westwood in the Irish goal.

The Four Nation International Tournament sponsored by the Clarion Hotels Group, ended this afternoon with hosts Ireland losing 0-1 to Portugal in the new Tallaght Stadium. The other Group fixture saw Holland defeat Turkey by
3-1 in Bray to lift the Trophy.
Kevin Doyle set to captain Ireland in Thomond Park ...07/09/2009
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni has named Kevin Doyle as Ireland captain for Tuesday's friendly against World Cup hosts South Africa in Thomond Park. With injury forcing the further departure of John O'Shea and Aiden McGeady, the starting eleven will be one of the most inexperienced to play for Ireland. New skipper Doyle has 28 caps, while his ten colleagues have a total of 66 between them, many of those coming in substitute appearances. Team: K Westwood; S Kelly, P McShane, S St Ledger, E Nolan; L Lawrence D Gibson, K Andrews, A Keogh; C Folan, K Doyle (C).

Senior players released from South Africa clash ...06/09/2009
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni has allowed senior players Shay Given, Richard Dunne, Kevin Kilbane and Robbie Keane to return to their clubs and they will play no part in Tuesday's friendly against World Cup hosts South Africa in Thomond Park. Stephen Hunt has also been allowed to depart for personal reasons. On loan Reading defender Darren O'Dea has been called up to the squad, as has Paddy McCarthy of Crystal Palace.

Under 19s defeat Turkey in Richmond Park...06/09/2009
The Four Nation International Tournament continued this Sunday evening with hosts Ireland scoring a two nil victory over opening day winners Turkey in Richmond Park. Goals in either half from skipper Conor Clifford set up a fine victory and Ireland now face Portugal in the new Tallaght Stadium at 3.00pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Robbie Keane fortieth keeps Ireland on course ...05/09/2009
It was edgy, rather patchy at times, lacking fluidity but no one really cares. It was simply about the three points, made absolutely crucial because both Italy and Bulgaria had already achieved victory. Kevin Doyle gave Ireland the lead on five minutes but old defensive failings reared their head again and the hosts Cyprus, equalised on thirty minutes. The following hour was somewhat uninspiring, however, an excellent Robbie Keane header from a Damian Duff cross rippled the net on eighty two minutes and Ireland, amidst mounting tension, held firm. The World Cup dream remains alive and now we await the finale, as both Italy and Montenegro come to Dublin in October.

A goal from Blackburn Rovers defender Callum O'Connor enabled the Republic of Ireland Under 19 side to play out a one all draw with Holland in the Carlisle Grounds in their opening fixture of the Four Nation International Tournament this afternoon. The other tie ended in a one nil victory for Turkey against Portugal in Richmond Park.

Scorching sun greets early Irish crusaders in Cyprus ...04/09/2009
With the crucial World Cup qualifier against Cyprus now less than thirty six hours from kick-off, early morning sun greeted a sprinkling of green clad football devotees who wandered the shores and streets of Ayia Napa, Larnaca and Limassol this morning. The squad meanwhile, remain at rest following their flight yesterday afternoon and are not set to appear until this evening's training session at the Stadium in Nicosia, when a final decision on the fitness of Sean St Ledger is likely to be made.

Under 17s gain victory in final Syrenka Cup fixture...04/09/2009
Manager Sean McCaffrey saw his Republic of Ireland Under 17 side score a four one success over Romania in their final Syrenka International Cup fixture in Poland this afternoon. The squad will now look forward to their UEFA Championship first qualifying stage when they travel to Bulgaria at the end of the month where they will face Latvia, Sweden and the hosts.

The Republic of Ireland Under 17 side went down by another 1-2 scoreline in this afternoon's match against Sweden in the Syrenka International Cup being played in Poland. The two countries will meet again in the UEFA Qualifiers at the end of September.

Under 17 manager Sean McCaffrey took an eighteen player squad to Poland this week, where they are competing in the eight nation Syrenka International Cup. Ireland went down 1-2 to Russia in their opening fixture in Zgierz on Tuesday afternoon. The second match, on Wednesday afternoon, sees the opening day Group Two losers Sweden and Ireland face each other.
