All change - a quartet of hungry young Wolves...19/08/2013
How quickly things can change. Just a short while ago, the Ireland senior squad was likely to include the then Wolverhampton Wanderers quartet of Kevin Doyle, Kevin Foley, Stephen Hunt and Stephen Ward, all of whom now appear to have fallen by the wayside. The Midlands club however has a new quartet of young Irishmen, all eager to join the international ranks. Star of the show in last week's U21 success against the Faroe Islands was two goal Matt Doherty, while goalkeeper Aaron McCarey was the last line of defence. Suspension ruled out midfielder Anthony Forde, but he is expected to return to the squad for the upcoming UEFA Championship qualifier against Germany in Sligo on the 9th September and could be joined by another teenager, striker Liam McAlinden, who has recently declared.

A complete and utter waste of time in Cardiff?...14/08/2013
The utter futility of playing international friendly matches three days before the start of the Premiership season in England was vividly illustrated in Cardiff this evening. Save for a bright opening five minutes from Ireland, the remainder of this sparsely attended encounter with Wales in the Cardiff City Stadium, was little short of boring tedium personified. The first half , with seemingly reasonably strong starting elevens in opposition, was a lesson in listlessness, while the second period during which Ireland introduced James McClean, Darren O'Dea, Paul Green, Paddy Madden, Andrew Keogh and Conor Sammon was even more abject and should surely have merited a full refund to the handful of martyrs who had the misfortune to actually make some real effort by attending.

Ireland U21s off to winning start in UEFA qualifier...14/08/2013
Ireland kicked of their 2015 European U21 Championship qualifying campaign with a four one victory over the Faroe Islands in Toftir this evening. Ireland went behind on fourteen minutes but Samir Carruthers equalised nine minutes later to steady the ship. The remainder of the first half was quite even with chances for both sides. Ireland claimed the ascendancy in the second half and took the lead on sixty eight minutes through Matt Doherty. Late strikes from Doherty again and Aiden O'Brien put much gloss on what was a challenging encounter on the Toftir plastic. Ireland will next face group favourites Germany in the Sligo Showgrounds on Monday the 9th September 2013.

Will Hayhurst - 'One to Watch'...05/08/2013
Ireland U21 Head Coach Noel King is likely to have a keen interest in the progress of nineteen year old winger Will Hayhurst, who impressed in his cameo appearance for Preston North End in their League One encounter with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon and was in the starting eleven for his club who defeated Championship outfit Blackpool in the first round of the Capital One Cup this evening.
